Application Laboratory (APL) aims for realizing innovation through mutual enlightenment and sustainable collaboration between research and society. APL promotes the following researches, in view of setting up framework in which research outcomes will be made available widely in the society; 1) introduction of “climate variations application lab unit” for applied researches related to climate variation prediction, ocean current prediction and delivery/validation of prediction information on the basis of a revolutionary observation, prediction, and verification system, 2) delivery/validation of weather forecast, applied information in the tropical regions and East Asia by developing a global cloud-resolving atmospheric model, and 3) delivery/validation of chemical composition variation prediction and its applied information by use of, for example, a tropospheric ozone diffusion model.

APL, established in 2009, is extending applied fields of research outcomes, not only in Japan but also worldwide.
