The company approached JAMSTEC in early 2007, and announced the product offering in March 2009. The speed of the entire process from the time of contract until product offering took just over a year. The factor that cinched the decision to commercially produce was the mass production system for proteins that JAMSTEC developed and was already successfully using to mass-produce Thermostable β-Agarase.

This background led to commercial production of Thermostable β-Agarase as a research reagent. Sales are good and product reviews report that "the product can replace similar products already on the market." We did not set out to make Thermostable β-Agarase into a reagent product. In fact, the idea was not part of our concept of an enzyme discovery that aided advanced uses of red algae. What we learned is that if we create something of quality, someone will see merit in it from an angle we had not considered. Research involving DNA has now become prevalent across all industrial sectors, and the product we created significantly reduces time and labor while collecting large molecular weight DNA and makes genetic analysis easier.
