PCT (Project Coordination Team) is an organization established by the CIB to help guide IODP proposals into Chikyu’s drilling projects, and then to oversee the planning and execution of the expedition itself.
What is the PCT?
The PCT comprises representatives from CDEX’s (the Chikyu implementing organization) Drilling and Science groups, principle investigators, and external scientists and engineers as needed. Each PCT will have slightly different responsibilities based on the unique scientific and operational complexities inherent in each drilling project.
PCT members meet regularly, either through face-to-face meetings or web conferences to resolve a balance between scientific targets and operational constraints. Their efforts are summarized in the IODP Scientific Prospectus and CDEX Drilling Plan. The PCT also takes charge of staffing and advises on adjusting science targets during the expedition as needed.
