Access to all IODP expedition samples and data is restricted until the end of the 1-year moratorium period, after which they are open to the public.
All sample and data collected by IODP expeditions are available to the public, upon official request, for science or educational purposes after each moratorium period.
Samples and data are independently maintained and managed by the IODP implementing organization (IO) based upon which ship and IO (Chikyu – JAMSTEC, JOIDES Resolution – USIO, mission-specific platform, ECORD) hosts the expedition.

D/V Chikyu occasionally performs drilling expeditions outside the IODP framework. In these cases, samples and data are curated differently.
