2007 September 25 (Day 5)
Weather: Fine
Site: NT2-03 Pilot hole (33°14’ N, 136°42’ E)
Running into the hole and tag seabed at 2200 meter water depth at 12:00. Confirm the well location in witness of wellsite geologist, OSI, EPM, CCs, and spud in at 12:15. Jet in to the depth of 70 meter below seafloor with control ROP (Rate of Penetration) of 50 m/hr. Encountered hole problems, increase of pressure and torque, and sweep out HiVis drilling fluid two times and spot them before connections. In accordance with hole conditions, changed more circulation and slower ROP.
Science party continues practicing on logging data analysis software, and science seminar 2 with special session of ODP Leg 196- Nankai LWD Review from four scientists in topics of core-log-seismic integration, resistivity data based modeling in fluid flow, and stress analysis from borehole breakouts.
Lab technicians continued working in the lab area for maintenance, instrument setup and rearrangements. Met with CoreTech for Oriented Coring Test procedure, took lecture and training of cascade system, fixed the low water level in the pressure tank, and checked inventory of office supplies.
