Science Operations on Deck: Make up BHA for pilot hole with 8-1/2" PDC bit, bit sub, stabilizers, drill collars and jar, moved the ship to 4 nm upstream. Running into while drifting back to the site at 20:00 on 31 October. Positioned the ship and confirmed the hole coordinates at 04:30 on 1 November. Spud the Hole C0004A (2632 m water depth) on 04:45 and jetted down to the 70 meters below seafloor (mbsf).

Science Operations in Labs: Continued review on Site C0002 reports. Continued discussion on lab measurements and tour in the lab was made between Specialty Coordinators and Lab. officers. Lab technicians continued setting up instruments.
