Science Operations on Deck: Cored continuously from 853.0 to 976.5 mbsf by RCB. Core recovery is around 30% in average.

Science Operations in Labs: Half of the Science Party disembarked. Half of Exp 316 Science Party came embarked instead. Cross-over between two Science Parties is being proceeded through processing of cores from the Hole C0002B. H.

Overall Science Update: Drilled through the base of the Kumano Basin around 920 mbsf, and penetrated into the top of the accretionary prism unit. Lithology and structures were drastically changed.
