Turbine Driven Coring System (TDCS)
JAMSTEC is developing an improved, more effective, Turbine Driven Coring System (TDCS).
This novel wire-line retrievable coring system is designed to improve recovery in formations that are otherwise difficult to core, e.g., hard, fractured crystalline rock, interbedded hard/soft formations, or friable conglomerate and reef materials.
Since the TDCS applies less weight-on-bit and higher rotary speed to the core bit, core quality and recovery is enhanced. The core barrel can use mud as a drilling fluid.
TDCS

Objective:
- Higher rpm and less weight-on-bit to enhance core quality and recovery in hard rock formations.
- Use mud as drilling fluid to drive turbine.
- Wireline retrievable
