Hybrid Pressure Core Sampler

Hybrid Pressure Core Sampler

Hybrid Pressure Core Sampler

JAMSTEC developed Hybrid Pressure Core Sampler (Hybrid PCS) in line with Scientist requirement for coring to keep hole bottom pressure.

Measure Feature :

Hybrid PCS can be used existing wire line coring system on the Chikyu through drill pipe as common system and recover big diameter pressurized coring system as possible as existing drill pipe. In order to achieve this function, Hybrid has used top seal ball valve. Hybrid can catch pressurized core sample which is core diameter 51mm (2") , core length 3.5m with max pressure 5,000psi by using existing 5" and 5-1/2" drill pipe (Inside diameter : 4-1/8"). This pressurized core can be transferred to GEOTEK Pressure Core Analysis and Transfer System(PCATS) and analyze under pressurized condition.

Hybrid PCS is consist of three measure parts which are 1. upper part (running / retrieving ), 2. middle part (pressure control section) and 3. lower part (autoclave) .

Hybrid PCS that was newly developed by JAMSTEC and Aumann associates Inc. as combined feature of PCS developed by Texas A&M Univ. (TAMU), and Pressure Temperature Core Sampler (PTCS), Non-cooled (NC)-PTCS, developed by JOGMEC.

Hybrid PCS have three sealing devices which are lower ball valve, Top seal for mud return port and pressure control valve from accumulator in order to keep hole bottom pressure. These device are functioned by running / retrieving core wire line. Ball valve can be through large size core which is outside diameter 59mm with special configuration / feature.
