JAMSTEC developing advanced technology as part of National project.
JAMSTEC is working on developing many new technologies for Chikyu, to keep the deep-sea drilling vessel among the world's best in the field of drilling engineering.
"The world's premier Riser Drilling Technology", JAMSTEC's main development target, is a National Project laid out by the government as part of the 3rd Science and Technology Basic Plan. This was a Cabinet decision in 2005, to promote comprehensive and systematic steps to advance science and technology.
