Enhanced Dynamic Positioning System

A Dynamic Positioning System (DPS*) requires at least three different position reference systems (PRS) based on at least two different principles; 1. four Satellite Differential Positioning Systems (DGPS), 2. two Acoustic Position Reference Systems (APRS) on the sea floor to maintain a relatively stationary position to a drill hole using the Chikyu's thrusters.
A data pooled sensor mode (data mixed) was developed to generate the vessel's position, the Auto-Mixed Sensor. The new sensor allows each PRS to automatically analyze and use quality data in real time to maintain position.

Objective:
Increase DPS rbilieliaty.

* DPS: A system that maintains a vessel's position relative to a fixed point on the sea floor. DPS signals each thruster on the amount and direction of thrust needed to maintain position under running conditions such as a vessel position deviation, heading, thrust of each thruster, wind etc., continuously.
