The D/V CHIKYU open house was held at Hachinohe port in Aomori prefecture from October 9 to 10.

D/V CHIKYU arrived at the quay of the Hachinohe port and was given a welcome from many people gathered at the quay. D/V CHIKYU received a great expectation from the mayor and the citizens of Hachinohe. They gave D/V CHIKYU some massages like “we are looking forward to seeing the scientific results by D/V CHIKYU.” and “It’s our great pleasure that D/V CHIKYU will take place her drilling test off Shimokita peninsula and the Hachinohe port will be a base port for the test operation.”

The open ship tour kicked off with a performance by a brass band of Minato elementary school in Hachinohe city. 12,154 people visited the ship during two open ship days and Mr. Yuta Konakano was celebrated as a visitor of the 20,000th person in all in the D/V CHIKYU open ship. D/V CHIKYU started the test operation off Shimokita peninsula with cheering of many people in Hachinohe.
