JAMSTEC has held the CHIKYU open ship during her operation test to introduce the onboard facilities.
The event in 2006 has started at Kochi prefecture Japan jointly hosted with local organizers after the
basic operation test off Shikoku island.
In Kochi, there is the Center for Advanced Marine Core Research,
Kochi University (CMCR) that is a repository for the cores (cylindrical sample taken from geological
layers). On the one day before the open ship, The CHIKYU's first acquired core taken off Shimokita
peninsula was carried out from the ship to the CMCR.
About 20,000 people visited D/V CHIKYU during
the open ship in Kochi and Sukumo. The 30,000th in Kochi and the 40,000th visitor in series of open ship
in Sukumo was celebrated and presented a gift for the celebration from the captain.
JAMSTEC has planned to hold the CHIKYU open ship again in this year. The detailed information
