Invitation for the Events
To Mark the Port Call of the Dee-sea Drilling Vessel "Chikyu" at Shingu Port

The Deep-sea Drilling Vessel "Chikyu" operated by the Japan Agency
for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC; Mr. Yasuhiro Kato,
President) will arrive at Shingu Port on February 5, after completing her
first mission "Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSEIZE)"
for Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP).

To mark the port call of the "Chikyu", we will hold International Symposium
and the Open House of the "Chikyu". The "Chikyu" is scheduled to set
sail from Shingu Port on February 12.

(1) International Symposium
Date and time: 9:00-15:00 Saturday, February 9, 2008
Venue: Shingu Civic Center
Host: The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC)
Sponsors: Cabinet Office (disaster prevention), Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry,
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Japan Coast Guard,
Wakayama Prefecture, Shingu City
Contents: Aiming to raise public people's awareness about disaster prevention,
we will report our results attained from this expedition immediately.

(2) Open House of the "Chikyu"
Date and time: 10:00-15:00 February 10 and 11, 2008
Venue: Sano the third berth, Shingu Port
Host: Wakayama Prefecture, Shingu City, The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth
