Staff Scientist Position Available (CDEX/JAMSTEC)

Currently the position is open for the Staff Scientist (CDEX).
The Staff Scientist has significant responsibilities as an IODP
Expedition Project Manager (pre-, onboard and post-cruise
activities required), as well as for the onboard laboratory staff.
The applicant will also advance their own scientific research based
on collected expedition data. Individual IODP-related research,
as well as collaboration with colleagues at CDEX, are integral
components of the Staff Scientist position. The Staff Scientist
must also insure that all IODP-related documents are processed
and submitted in accordance with IODP requirements. Other
documentation may be produced or adjusted as required for
CDEX as necessary. Applicants must be able to cooperate and
work harmoniously with others and must have excellent English
language and editing skills. A Ph.D. in the natural sciences is a basic
requirement.

- The inspection and maintenance at the port of Sasebo -

The inspection and maintenance is conducted for the Chikyu
until mid of April 2008 at Sasebo shipyard. This year, it is mid-term
inspection done every 2-3 years and examine closely. The Chikyu
entered a dry dock and ship bottom, propellers, propeller axis and
gears are inspected. Chikyu's engine, boiler, fire extinguisher, safety
boat and raft or other required equipments are under inspection.
Also oyster and acorn shells covered on hull are cleaned and repainted,
and emergency foods are replaced, too.
