The Proceedings of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program
covers NanTroSEIZE Stage 1 Expeditions 314 through 316
is published online. This publication can be viewed

A serial publication contains a detailed summary of
expedition technical operations and scientific results
that cover post-expedition research during the 1 year
moratorium period. The contents are includes preliminary
pages, expedition reports, supplementary material includes
coring summaries, photomicrographs, physical property data,
structural geology data, visual core description,
and X-ray computed tomography scans. Drilling location maps,
and the expedition-related bibliography covers IODP,
journal, book, and conference publications are also included.

Update on Chikyu's Sea Trial

Chikyu departed Kobe in February to conduct sea trials.
The sea trial includes periods for coring operation,
during which scientists worked onboard to analyze the cores.
In the beginning of March, the scientists boarded the ship
at Shimizu. Safety-purpose site surveys started in
Kumano-nada area, at the proposed site of next IODP expedition
starting May. Coring test at the next site targeted
sample recovery in a mud volcano. Mud volcano is an
accumulation of mud ejected by escaping gases and fluids,
and different from magmatic volcano. Recovered core showed
presence of toxic hydrogen sulfide, therefore onboard staffs
worked carefully wearing masks and using portable gas detectors.
Scientists have been analyzing samples from one of the most
unique seafloor environments. Chikyu moved to Suruga bay
for operational trainings continuously.
