[Automated Cable-laying System: test in actual environment]
The automated cable-laying system was tested in real sea on July 5-9, 2012. The electric motors and sensors including the DVL were investigated to confirm whether they can be operated correctly in actual environment. The cable-laying controller was also tested and DVL data on various situations were obtained. Two dives of the ROV "Hyper Dolphin" were conducted at Suruga Bay and the details are as follows.
- DIVE #1398 on July 6, 2012: The motors and sensors including the DVL were investigated during descending. The deepest depth around the testing area is approximately 2000m. After landing, the cable-laying controller was tested without paying out the cable; however, the cable bobbin and the sheave were rotated to keep pace with the ground speed from the DVL.
- DIVE #1399 on July 8, 2012: DVL data on various situations were obtained.
