2012.12.11 update
[Off Kushiro-Tokachi observatory measured micro-tsunami]

A moderate-to-large earthquake occurred off Sanriku, Japan at 17:18 JST on 7 December 2012. It is considered that it is one of the aftershock of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, whose focal mechanism was normal faulting, suggesting a outer-rise earthquake. JAMSTEC has started to monitor earthquake and tsunami in real-time off Kushiro-Tokachi, Hokkaido since 1999 by deploying the offshore observatory. Bottom-pressure sensors of the offshore observatory could detect the micro-tsunamis (tsunami amplitude < 1 cm) excited by the earthquake.
