Scientists are recording information of the world's glaciers to the glacier inventory, which contains its location, name, area, etc. The inventory has made possible scientific study with their joint system. In Mongolia, to our regret, glaciers had not been research in detail and they had not entered in inventory yet. After research in the Altai Mountains of Russia-Mongolia border region by local observation and analysis of satellite data or topographical map, we finally prepared the inventory of Altai glaciers.
As a result it has been determined that the area of glacier decreased about thirty percent for the last fifty years.
The Glacier Inventory, which estimates glacier retreat and thawing ratio, is important basic dataset due to influence water resource, vegetation, an ecological system and living environment.
