The cryosphere means the cold region in the earth where solid water such as snow and ice exists. Less than 3% of earth's water is equivalent fresh water, and 80% of them are snow and ice. Their shape is an accumulation of snow, glaciers, ice sheets and permafrost.

The Asian monsoon is a dominant feature of climate in a broad region covering East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia, Japan included.
The Asian monsoon is represented by changes of prevailing winds from summer to winter which accompany changes of distribution of precipitation (rainfall and snowfall).

This theme aims to use information of vegetation (greenness) derived from satellite observations (hereafter referred to as "vegetation index") to integrate the spatiotemporal characteristics of vegetation change in Asia with meteorological data, and to perform analyses.

The observational data and reanalysis data are organized and registered with the Data Integration and Information Fusion Core System, together with the metadata, which describe the data attributes.

"Development of Technologies for Practical Use", aims to propose a prototype of services to be provided while paying heed to requests concerning the type, quality and format of the required data and verifying development and operational potential.
