Notice of Positive Case for COVID-19

Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology's (JAMSTEC) Support Vessel YOKOSUKA had been on a research cruise since August 20, 2021, after all members on board tested negative for the COVID-19 in the PCR test before departure. However, on August 22, one person suffered a loss of taste. After quarantine on the research vessel, a simple antigen test was performed, and as a result of remote diagnosis by a doctor, infection with the COVID-19 was strongly suspected.

YOKOSUKA had temporarily returned to Yokosuka Headquarters on the 23rd, and as a result of PCR testing on the suspected person and the other person who shared the same room, only the suspected person was confirmed to be positive for the COVID-19.

At present, YOKOSUKA is berthed at JAMSTEC Yokosuka Headquarters. The person confirmed to be positive for the COVID-19 is quarantined and under follow-up observation. All other members are instructed to stay on board.

JAMSTEC and its Emergency Response Headquarters Office headed by the President will continue to take necessary measures to gain an understanding of infection status of other members onboard and prevent the spread of COVID-19 following the instructions of the local public health center.
