The Oceanographic Research Vessel MIRAI

(Length Over All 128.58m,Breadth 19.0m, Depth 13.2m, Gross Tonnage 8,687tons)

MIRAI is the world's largest oceanographic research vessel belongs to the JAMSTEC. Her missions are determining the thermal cycle of the ocean, solving the material cycle of the ocean, solving the ecosystem in the ocean, solving the dynamics of the seafloor and developing the ocean observation buoy. Her wide-range observation activities are conducted in Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Indian Ocean. This first Doppler radar equipped vessel in the world has ice resistance structure and antirolling system, and those equipments make observation possible even in polar area or in severe weather. She also equipped a huge water sampler and is capable of loading 14 large oceanographic observation buoy (TRITON BUOY).
