Invitation of FY2008 Research Themes
for Deep-sea Research
and the Oceanographic Research Vessel "MIRAI"

The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC: Yasuhiro Kato, President) invites research themes on the deep-sea research utilizing JAMSTEC’s R/Vs and submersibles such as the Manned Research Submersible "SHINKAI 6500"and the Remotely Operated Vehicle "KAIKO 7000 II”, and on the oceanographic study utilizing the R/V "MIRAI”. Themes for Deep-sea Research
As one of our basic research and development related to the ocean, in order to promote comprehensive elucidation/ prediction of earth scientific phenomenon (tectonics, seismic activity, crustal change, ecosystem change, material circulation) and technology development, themes for deep-sea research utilizing JAMSTEC’s R/Vs and submersibles such as the Manned Research Submersible "SHINKAI 6500"and the Remotely Operated Vehicle "KAIKO 7000 II"are invited.
Also, you can apply for themes to make a proposal for Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP).

Themes for the Oceanographic Research Vessel "MIRAI"
Research themes and on board researchers of R/V MIRAI, in line with the main research themes based on long-term observation research project and middle-term observation research project of FY 2007~2008, are invited. Among these main research themes, Arctic Observation Cruise is planned as one of International Polar Year projects.
