| Job Description | The research themes are: to establish a method for isolating individual amino acids from the sediment, to improve the sensitivity of accelerator mass spectrometry, and to apply these methods for deep-sea and lacustrine sediments for estimating the sediment chronologies. *There may be change in affiliation in case of reorganization in the Agency. |
| Requirements | Applicant is required to hold a Ph.D. degree in related field within five years prior to the date of employment, or expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree in related field by the date of employment.

2) Type of contract: Fixed term employee 3) Working hours: Discretionary labor system 4) Contract Period Period of employment is from August 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2014. *Appointment date is negotiable. *One contract period is maximum one Japanese fiscal year, and the contract is renewable depending on the progress of research and research project and the performance evaluation up to three fiscal years (until March 31st, 2016). *However, fixed term will be ended at the end of the project "Radiocarbon dating of sedimentary amino acids for a chronological tool" supported by JSPS Grants-in-Aid. |
| Salary | Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, by considering academic career, research ability and research role in BioGeos (annual salary system). Appointment level for the position will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates.
The expected salary will be JPY 5,000,000. *No bonus/retirement allowance provided. |
| Terms of Employment | 1) On appointment, relocation fee will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws. 2) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided. 3) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion. 4) Housing lease service is not available. 5) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and care and maternity leave. 6) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative. |

(A4 size, 1page) c) One recommendation letter written by a senior research scientist which should be sent directly from him/her by POST.
