Available Position & Research Topics Chemo-Ecosystem Evolution Research Team, Marine Biodiversity Research Program is seeking for a Technical Support Staff to support "Theme 1, Research on Mapping and Decomposition of Debris in Fisheries Grounds" (FY2011-FY2020, Principal investigator: Hiroshi Kitazato) of "Eastern Japan Marine Ecosystems Dynamics Project" subsidized by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-JAPAN.

Job Description Technical Support Staff will support the researches as follows:

1) To participate research cruises.
2) To summarize, digitize and visualize information on tsunami marine debris provided by local governments.
3) To support genetic analyses of organisms collected off Sanriku.
4) To support 3D image analysis of tsunami marine debris (mainly wood).
Requirements Applicants must have a four year college/university degree in related fields, or equivalent skills and experience.
Also applicants are expected to have experience and knowledge as follows:

1) Molecular biological experiments
2) Digitization using spreadsheet softwares

*Relevant research fields: Statistics, population genetics, marine biology

Contract Period Period of employment is from September 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2016. (three Japanese fiscal year)

*Appointment date is negotiable.
*The contract is renewable depending on the progress of research and research project and the performance evaluation up to five fiscal years (until March 31st, 2018).
*However, fixed term will be ended at the end of the project "Eastern Japan Marine Ecosystems Dynamics Project" subsidized by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-JAPAN.
Salary Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, by considering academic career, research ability and research role in BioGeos (annual salary system). Appointment level for the position will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates.

The expected salary will be JPY3,000,000-3,200,000.

* No bonus/retirement allowance provided.
Terms of Employment 1) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
2) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
3) Housing lease service is NOT available.
4) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and care and maternity leave.
5) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative.

Candidates will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview currently scheduled in early July, 2013.
The successful candidate is expected to join us from September 1st, 2013.
The transportation fee is payable to candidates from abroad, but only under specific situations.
