|Job Description||JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a few staff members who will engage in data processing/analysis of observation data obtained through the Dense Oceanfloor Network System for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET) and its systems operation/management. This position is scheduled to be conducted under external funding for DONET.
<Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting System Research Group>
Data simulation using a supercomputer, procession/analysis using or considering seismic waves, crustal deformation from the observation data obtained through DONET and making use of these for efficient and effective operation, and other duties designated by the department.
<Seismogenic Zone Monitoring Research Group>
Whole operation of the devices related to DONET, processing of observation data obtained through DONET, and other duties designated by the department.

Project Technical Scientist:
To contribute to the project, a Project Technical Scientist is expected to take a leading role in research, technology development, and technology innovation.
To contribute to the project, a Project Engineer is expected to manage, improve and advance the infrastructure. Establishment of technology based on a background of general technical knowledge such as information system, improvement of technical management functions is also inclusive.
*There may be a change in affiliation in the event of reorganization of the Agency.

Project Technical Scientist:
The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. and a strong record in a closely related research and development field.
The successful applicant must have a bachelor's degree in a closely related field. Those who have equivalent ability with extensive experience are also acceptable.

(4) Contract Period
Period of employment is from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
*For operation and management purposes for this project, the applicant is required to be available for appointment on April 1, 2016.
*1 contract period is a maximum of 1 fiscal year.
*The contract period can be renewed but the total contract period is a maximum of 3 fiscal years (until March 31, 2019) depending on the progress of the research.
*The contract period mentioned above will change according to budget of this project.
*In accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC, on reaching the age of 65 years during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
|Salary||Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
Project Technical Scientist: e.g., JPY 6,000,000~6,700,000
Project Engineer: e.g., JPY5,700,000～6,000,000 *Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*Salary will be competitive in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the applicant.
*There are no bonus or retirement allowance.
|Terms of Employment||(1) Upon appointment, the successful applicant will receive a relocation allowance in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC.
(2) An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(3) The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by the current statute.
(4) The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(5) A housing lease service is not available.
(6) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.

e) A list of competitive research funds awarded to the applicant (1 copy).
f) 2 (or fewer) representative publications (1 copy).
g) 2 letters of recommendation from 2 senior research scientists (1 letter from each). The person providing the recommendation should send the letter directly to JAMSTEC by POST. The applicant’s name should be written on the envelope. Letters of recommendation written by a JAMSTEC employee or JAMSTEC Visiting Scientist will not be accepted.
A CV (1 copy). A valid email and home address must be provided. Also include details of your professional experiences in the CV.

(3) Interview and appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application materials, followed by an interview. Currently, interviews are scheduled in January-February, 2016. The successful applicant is expected to join us on April 1, 2016.
