Job Description JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a Technical Support Staff member who will support data processing/analysis of observation data obtained through the Dense Oceanfloor Network System for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET) and its systems operation/management.

This position is scheduled to be conducted under external funding for DONET.

[Job Description]
Processing observation data obtained through the Dense Oceanfloor Network System for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET), ensuring quality control, disseminating information outside of JAMSTEC, and other duties designated by the department.

<Relevant Research Fields>
Marine seismology, marine geology, geophysics, ocean engineering, among other possible fields. A person who has experience in the field of earthquake/tsunami research development using DONET or any underwater cables system is highly desired.

Project Technical Support Staff (Class 2):
To support research in the project, the Project Technical Support Staff member is expected to perform tasks that require judgment and application, including jobs that require basic skills and knowledge.

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
*There is a possibility that the positions above could change. The details are currently under consideration.
Requirements Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or possess equivalent skills and experience.

*In addition, applicants are expected to have experience with, and knowledge of, biology and molecular biology.

Period of employment is from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.

*For operation and management purposes for this project, the applicant is required to be available for appointment on April 1, 2016.
*1 contract period is a maximum of 1 fiscal year. The contract period can be renewed but the total contract period is a maximum of 3 fiscal years (until March 31, 2019) depending on the progress of this research project.
*The contract period will end at the conclusion of this funding.

*In accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, on reaching the age of 60 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
 e.g. JPY 3,300,000

*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*There are no raise, bonus and retirement allowance.
Terms of Employment (1)An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(2)The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
(3)The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(4)Housing lease service is not available.
(5)Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.

(3) Interview and appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview. Currently, interviews are scheduled in January-February, 2016. The successful applicant is expected to join us on April 1, 2016.
