Job Description The Seismogenic Zone Monitoring Research Group, Research and Development (R&D) Center for Earthquake and Tsunami (CEAT), is seeking a Project Technical Support Staff member who will be engaged in supporting a study on the Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone. This position is conducted under external funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for Nankai Trough Project.

The Project Technical Support Staff member will support the research in the following ways:

1) Tsunami simulation using supercomputers and servers;
2) Construction of a tsunami database;
3) Management of computers and servers and other equipment owned by CEAT;
4) Other tasks as required (e.g., writing reports in Japanese, negotiations for a variety of related purposes, etc.)

<Relevant Research Fields>
Knowledge and experience with tsunami simulation, database construction, and computer management.

Project Technical Support Staff (Class 2):
To support research in the project, the Project Technical Support Staff member is expected to perform tasks that require judgment and application, including jobs that require basic skills and knowledge.

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
*There is a possibility that the positions above could change. The details are currently under consideration.
Requirements Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or possess equivalent skills and experience.

*In addition, applicants are expected to have experience with, and knowledge of, tsunami simulation and related functions.

(4)Contract Period
Period of employment is from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
*For operation and management purposes for this project, applicant is required to be able to be appointed on April 1st, 2016.
*1 contract period is a maximum of 1 fiscal year. The contract period can be renewed but the total contract period is a maximum of 3 fiscal years (until March 31, 2019) depending on the progress of this research project.
*The contract period will end at the conclusion of this funding.

*In accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, on reaching the age of 60 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
 e.g. JPY 3,300,000

*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*There are no raise, bonus and retirement allowance.
Terms of Employment (1)An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(2)The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
(3)The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(4)Housing lease service is not available.
(5)Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.

(3) Interview and appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview. Currently, interviews are scheduled in January-February, 2016. The successful applicant is expected to join us on April 1, 2016.
