|Available Position & Research Topics||JAMSTEC is involved in the Research Program on Climate Change Adaption (http://www.mext-isacc.jp/) funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology from 2010. We are searching for a postdoc willing to work with our group with a strong interest on climate simulations. Our group focuses on the "Green Innovation for Urban-Seaside Integrated Area" with a close collaboration with the scientists at the University of Tokyo and National Institute for Environmental Studies.
Based on the goal of the Research Program on Climate Change Adaption and the topic of "Green Innovation for Urban-Seaside Integrated Area", the appointee is expected to use or develop our air-sea coupled model (Multi-Scale Simulator for the Geoenvironment: MSSG) based on the topics listed below:
·Investigation of the urban climate near coastal areas through numerical simulations of the atmospheric and oceanic circulations
·Model development and investigation on the impact of river and freshwater discharges on coastal areas
·Understanding the role of the ocean on the urban climate such as heat islands
·Understanding the impact and mechanism of torrential rains on urban climate
The candidates must meet the following conditions:
(1) Must have awarded a Ph.D. after April 1st, 2007 or expect to obtain a Ph.D. by the date of employment.
(2) Must have the experiences on numerical simulation research and be strongly committed to challenge on the new fields.

Period of employment is from August 2011 (the date is not fixed yet and negotiable) to March 31st, 2012. Employment contract is renewable every fiscal year depending on the progress of research and research project, but maximum for three times of the fiscal year (until March 31st, 2015), which means to hire for 4 Fiscal Years.
However, this hiring is provided as a contracted-base research project, 'the Research Program on Climate Change Adaption'. There is possibility that the project would be discontinued.
Accordingly, the release of the employment is occasionally to be considered due to the outsourcing side reason.
|Terms of Employment||
1) Travel allowance will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws.
2) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
3) Housing lease service is NOT available.
4) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
5) No bonus/retirement allowance provided.
6) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave.
6) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative.

b) Two reference (recommendation) letters written by another senior research scientist, which should be sent directly from them by POST. Applicant's name should be written on the envelope.

e) One copy of a list for competitive research fund from some kind of research institution in Japan. (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, any funded research from Japan Science and Technology Agency, and etc)
