Job Description Department of Integrated Climate Change Projection Research (IClip), JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a Project Technical Support Staff position for a research project entitled "Research on methane–climate feedback (FY2017–2019, Principal Investigator: Tomohiro Hajima)". This project is a sub-theme of the project, "Development of a Monitoring and Evaluation System of the Methane Budget for Different Source Categories in East Asia toward Intended Emission Reduction" supported by the Ministry of Environment, Japan.

The successful applicant will engage in the work outlined below:
(1) Modyfing source codes of Earth system model / land ecosystem model to develop new models, and support optimization of the numerical models for our super-computer systems
(2) to prepare input datasets to drive the numerical models
(3) to prepare shell-scripts to run the numerical models on our super-computer systems
(4) to visualize the model output, and support the preparation of presentation materials

<Relevant Research Fields>
Computer Science (numerical simulations), Biogeochemistry, Atmospheric chemistry and Limnology.
*We welcome applicants from other research fields.
Job Type Project Technical Support Staff (Class 3): To be engaged in supporting the research in the Project, a Project Technical Support Staff is expected to take a role in jobs which require high skills and knowledge, furthermore jobs which require judgment and application..

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
Requirements Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the related fields, or possess equivalent skills and experience.

<Required Skills>
UNIX (Linux, Mac OS X, etc.) and the shell-scripts; FORTRAN or C languages.
Also wellcomed the skill of script languages like python.

*Knowledge of Biogeochemistry, Atmospheric chemistry or Limnology is not necessary.

Working Conditions & Contract Period (1) Number of positions:
1 position for a Project Technical Support Staff

(2) Type of contract
Fixed-term employee

(3)Working Hours
9:00-17:30 (Lunch hours 12:15-13:00)

(4) Contract Period
December 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

*Appointment date is negotiable.
*One contract period is a maximum of 1 fiscal year.
*The contract period can be renewed but the total contract period is a maximum of 3 fiscal years (until March 31, 2020) depending on the progress of the research.
*The contract period mentioned above will change according to budget of this project.

*In accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, on reaching the age of 60 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.
Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments) is JPY 4,200,000.
*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*There are no raise, bonus and retirement allowance.
Terms of Employment (1) An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(2) The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
(3) The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
(4) A housing lease service is not available.
(5) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.

(3) Interview and appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview. Currently, interviews are scheduled in mid November 2017. The successful applicant is expected to join us on December 1, 2017.
