| Job Description | IFREE studies dynamics of solid earth system in the fields of 1. global seismology, 2. marine geology and geophysics 3. non-linear geodynamics, and 4. global geochemistry.
There may be change in affiliation in case of reorganization in the Agency. |
| Requirements | Applicants must hold a PhD (or DSc) of the solid earth sciences, being expected to achieve outstanding research results and to accept leadership responsibilities in team science initiatives focused on global geochemistry and solid earth sciences. Desired leadership qualities include the ability to communicate, and to build strong, productive, multi disciplinary research teams. Any nationality, any gender could be applied. 4.Contract Period Period of employment is from October 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2018. One contract period is maximum five fiscal years, and the contract may be renewed. *However, in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, if reached the age of 65 during the employed fiscal year, the contract period should be expired at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change. |
| Salary | Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, by considering academic career, research ability and research role in IFREE (annual salary system). Appointment level for positions will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates. e.g. Annual salary: JPY11,000,000~13,500,000 |
| Terms of Employment | 1) On appointment, relocation fee will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws. 2) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion. 3) Housing lease service available. 4) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided. 5) No bonus/retirement allowance provided. 6) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave. 7) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative. |

(1) Required documents a) One copy of a CV. (a valid email & home address is essential) *Please specify that you are applying to the "Principal Scientist" position. b) One copy of a summary of research the applicant has been carried out. (A4 size, 2pages) c) One copy of your research plan in the program of JAMSTEC.(A4 size, 1 page) d) One copy of publication(achievement) list including thesis titles. *Please separate those with referred journals from other publications, and mark 5 to 10 of your representative publications. e) Copies of five representative publications. f) Three reference (recommendation) letters written by a senior research scientist, which should be sent directly to JAMSTEC from the recommender by POST. Applicant's name should be written on the envelope. Reference letter written by JAMSTEC employee or Visiting Scientist cannot be accepted. One letter should be written by a senior scientist who's affiliation is held in an Institute other than Japan. g) One copy of a list of competitive research funds awarded. (2) Submission Required documents must be sent by POST and should reach JAMSTEC before/on the closing date. Electronic format will NOT be accepted. *Please write "PERSONNEL, IFREE Principal Scientist" (in red) on the front of the envelope. Registered mail is recommended for confirming the receipt of your application (no acknowledgement will be provided). (3) Interview and Appointment Candidates will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by two interviews. Currently, the first interview will be scheduled in July, 2013, and the second interview will be held in August, 2013. The successful candidate is expected to join us from October 1st, 2013. *The transportation fee is payable to candidate from abroad, but only under specific situations. |
