Recruitment of Principal Scientist or Principal Technical Scientist

Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting a total of one position as a permanent employee Principal Scientist or Principal Technical Scientist
Recruiting
Department
Environmental Geochemical Cycle Research Group (EGCR), Research and Development Center for Global Change (RCGC)
Job Description The Environmental Geochemical Cycle Research Group (EGCR) of the Research and Development Center for Global Change (RCGC) at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is soliciting applications for a permanent employee position as a Principal Scientist or Principal Technical Scientist.

[Research description]
The EGCR focuses on a suite of chemical substances that circulate within the atmosphere, ocean, and land, which greatly affect climate and environmental changes. The EGCR quantifies the sources and sinks of these substances through observations and numerical modeling simulations to better understand Earth systems and contribute to solutions for climate and environmental change issues, with particular emphasis on elucidating their association with human activities. For this purpose, we conduct research and development on an international scale.
In this context, we are recruiting a Principal Scientist or Principal Research Scientist to conduct proactive observational research on environmental geochemical cycles throughout the surface Earth system, with particular focus on interactions with human activities. The successful applicant will also promote related international activities.

[Job specification]
・The successful applicant will lead research and development in environmental geochemical cycles at JAMSTEC using mainly observational approaches, and conduct comprehensive research activities to elucidate source/sink budgets, processes, and the impacts of key substances, toward solutions of social issues such as climate change and sustainable development goals from both Asian and global perspectives. The applicant will publish the findings of these research activities.
・The successful applicant will promote international collaborations in observational research and contribute to international activities, such as the International Panel on Climate Change Assessment Report, and domestic organizations.
・The successful applicant will strengthen the development of research that encompasses multiple Earth subsystems (e.g., atmospheric and oceanic chemical cycles and dynamics) to develop a consistent understanding of Earth systems.
・The successful applicant should have a strong background in material science, sensing technology, or a related field that will allow them to proactively propose cross-cutting research development strategies, taking full advantage of JAMSTEC’s broad resources and next-generation human resource development.

[Relevant research fields]
Atmospheric Chemistry, Chemical Oceanography, Geochemical Cycles, Global Environmental Science.
