FY2011 [Tropical Climate Variability Research Program (TCVRP), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)]Recruitment for a Research Scientist

Available Position & Research Topics Maritime Continent (MC) Climate Research Team of TCVRP, RIGC focuses on tropical convective activities over the Indonesian MC and its surrounding regions with the temporal scale of diurnal, monsoonal, and interannual variations, and their role in the global climate system though hydrological cycle. We employ as our major study tool, such as Doppler radars and automatic weather stations (AWSs) deployed in Indonesia, rainwater sampling for stable isotope analyses, historical meteorological data collection, and cloud resolving models.

We invite applicants for a Research Scientist who engage in activities below;

1) Participate an intensive observation for one month long at Sumatra Island, Indonesia, planned in 2011, and promote the maritime continent climate study though integrated analyses with satellite and/or objective analysis data as well as in situ observation data.
2) Develop weather forecasting system over the MC using cloud resolving models (e.g., NHM), and study how to optimize meteorological observation network by applying data assimilation technique (EnKF).
3) Maintenance of radars, AWSs, and other equipment operated in collaboration with research institutions in Indonesian government, and related coordination with them. Quality control of long-term their observation data and distribution of these data through our web sites are also expected.
