Recruitement for a Postdoctral Researcher

Available Position & Research Topics Monsoon Hydrological Cycle Research Team of TCVRP, RIGC solict a Postdoctral Reseracher to engage in the research project, "Climatic changes and evaluation of their effects on agriculture in Asian monsoon region" in the Green Network of Excellence program supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) activities below;
1) Collect paper format old meteorological data in Asian monsoon countries, in particular, in Southeast Asian countries, digitize them into computer readable format, and collect meteorological observation data in these countries in order to examine the long-term climatic changes there in collaboration with hydro-meteorological agencies in these countries.
2) Clarify century-scale climate changes in Asian monsoon region by utiliszing exsisting and newly developed data by this reserach project.
3) Develop agro-climatological database in Southeast Asian countries in order to contribute to the research on the future prediction of agricultural production in Southeast Asian countries by other reserach team of this project.

Requirements 1) Applicant is required to hold a Ph.D. degree in related field within five years prior to the date of employment, or expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree in related field by the date of employment.
2) Experience in climatological reserach in Southeast Asia and has capability of quality checking and database development in surface climatological data.

Contract Period Period of employment is from April 1st, 2012 to March 31th, 2013. Employment contract is renewable every fiscal year depending on the progress of research and research project, but maximum for three times (until March 31th 2015) .

* The contract period contingent on continuity of the Green Network of Excellence program supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Scienct and Technology (MEXT).
Salary Annual Salary: 5,256,000JPY
Terms of Employment 1) Travel allowance will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws.
2) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
3) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
4) No bonus/retirement allowance provided.
5) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave.
6)Housing lease service in NOT available.
7) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative.

a) One copy of research proposal including the research program which you desire to participate in. (A4 size, 1 page)
b) A reference (recommendation) letter written by a senior research scientist, which should be sent directly from them by POST. Applicant's name should be written on the envelope.
c) One copy of a resume. (a valid email address is essential)
d) One copy of publication list including thesis titles.
Please separate those with referred journals from other publications.
e) Copies of two (or less) representative publications.
f) One copy of a list for competitive research fund from some kind of research institution in Japan. (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, any funded research from Japan Science and Technology Agency, etc)

(2) Submission
Required documents must be sent by POST and reach JAMSTEC before/on the closing date. Electronic format will NOT be accepted.

(3) Interview and Appointment
Candidates will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview currently scheduled in mid-January 2012. The successful candidates are expected to join us from April 1st, 2012, but the appointment date is negotiable.
