Recruitement for a Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher
| Available Position & Research Topics | Available Position: We will be recruiting total of 2 positions as Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher who will participate in the researches related to the global nonhydrostatic model, NICAM. This reserch position is supported by the MEXT project, "Program for Information on Climate Change". Under this program, we will use NICAM to evaluate cloud properties and their changes associated with global warming, and discuss uncertainties of the climate sensitivity. Research topics are as follow: (1) Numerical simulation of NICAM using the Earth Simulator, and evaluation and improvement of climatology and cloud properties of NICAM using available observational data. (2) Analysis and evaluations of cloud systems both in the tropics and the mid- and high-latitudes using the NICAM simulation data and the satellite observation data, to understand uncertainties of the climate sensitivity. | Requirements | Applicant is required to (1)Ph.D.in fields related to the above description is required. *Postdoctoral Researcher: Applicants must have a Ph.D degree gained within the last five years. (2)Candidates should have willingness and skill to work on global change problems. Applicants in such a field as atmospheric modeling, dynamic meteorology, satellite data analysis, and cloud microphycs are highly welcome. |

| Contract Period | Period of employment is from February 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2013.(One Japanese fiscal year) *Appointment date is negotiable. *Employment contract is renewable every fiscal year depending on the progress of research and research project. *The maximum total contract term is five Japanese fiscal years (until March 31th, 2017) for Scientist , and 3 Japanese fiscal yearsd (until March 31th, 2015) for Postdoctoral Researcher. |
| Salary | Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, by considering academic career, research ability and research role in RIGC (annual salary system). Appointment level for positions will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates. e.g. Annual salary: Scientist JPY 5,400,000 - JPY5,700,000 Postdoctoral Researcher: JPY 5,250,000 *No bonus/retirement allowance provided. |
| Terms of Employment | 1) Relocation fee will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws. 2) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided. 3) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion. 4) Housing lease service is available. *Except to Postdoctoral Researcher 5) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave. 6) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC's employees' cooperative. |

(A4 size, 1 page) c) One reference (recommendation) letters written by a senior research scientis which should be sent directly from them by POST. Applicant's name should be written on the envelope. *Reference letter written by JAMSTEC employee or Visiting Scientist cannot be accepted. d) One copy of a resume. Please separate those with referred journals from other publications. f) Copies of two (or less) representative publications. g) One copy of a list of competitive research fund, if any ex. Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, any funded research from Japan Science and Technology Agency, or any other project research fund (both inside/out of Japan) .
