Job Description We are soliciting applications for a Technical Support Staff who will take part in the third medium-term plan.

The successful applicant is expected to do the following:

1. Maintenance and daily operation of research equipment.
2. Handling and organization of operational data acquired with equipment under management.
3. Summarizing scientific data (especially isotopic data) related to the research subject.
4. Supporting the preparation of reports and related documents.
5. Assisting with various research tasks.

Isotope chemistry/geochemistry (noble gases), Geochronology, Petrology, Mineralogy
Job Type Technical Support Staff (Class 3): To contribute to the Agency, a Technical Support Staff is expected to take a role in jobs which require high skills and knowledge, furthermore jobs which require judgment and application.

*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
Requirements Applicants must have a Master's degree in a related field or possess equivalent skills and experience.

·Maintenance and management of high-vacuum equipment. Experience in the production and design of such apparatus is preferable.
· Data management using spreadsheet software, e.g. MS-Excel. Experience in managing network devices is preferable.
· Daily communication via spoken Japanese, mail, telephone.
· Fundamental personal computer skills (MS-Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is preferable.

Working Conditions & Contract Period (1)Number of positions:

Period of employment is from October 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

*Appointment date is negotiable.
*One contract period is maximum one fiscal year, and the contract is renewable depending on the performance evaluation up to five fiscal years (until March 31, 2022)
*In accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, on reaching the age of 60 during the employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.

*After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract could be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or 65 if the employee is rehired after his/her retirement). For details on this system, please contact Human Resources Division II.
Salary Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments) is JPY 4,200,000.
*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*There are no raise, bonus and retirement allowance.
Terms of Employment 1) An allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
2) The employee and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for social insurance and labor insurance in the proportion specified by current statute.
3) The JAMSTEC employee cooperative provides various subsidies for mutual aid and welfare services.
4) A housing lease service is not available.
5) Holidays and vacations: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end, and New Year's holidays. Annual vacations with pay, special vacations, leave of absence to care for a family member, and maternity leave are provided.

(3) Interview and Appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application materials, followed by an interview. Currently interviews are scheduled in July or August, 2017.
The successful applicant will be expected to join us on October 1, 2017.
