To promote investigation and research of the sea and global environment, it is needless to say that the technology to support them is definitely important. We, JAMSTEC is proud to retain the world-class forefront technology, which cites chiefly 3 fields, (1) ocean observation technology by use of vessels, buoy and submersible / vehicle instrument, (2) deep sea drilling vessel "Chikyu" for the ocean floor digging technology, (3) numerical modeling and simulation technology on the large-scale computing system.
We also concentrate on the innovative technology and infrastructure for these facilities, tools and obtained data to be applied effectively to the various research fields and general society as well as the promotion of safe-efficient operation and planning for these infrastructures.

Marine Technology and Engineering Center promotes development of various forefront technology such as high-performance sea bottom exploring vehicle technology to observe the deepest region in the world and unmanned vehicle technology to investigate danger zone like active submarine volcano. These forefront innovative technologies are adopted not only to a field of oceanography but also to the another field of research and development as well as industry in prospect.
We also efficiently operate vessels, instruments and institutions that support practical observation activity. Furthermore we carry forward the education of technician and mechanical optimization to meet the needs of various research fields.

• Department of Ocean Networks System Development for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET) is transfered to "Leading Project" as "Earthquake and Tsunami research project for Disaster Prevention" on April 1st, 2009.

The development of advanced simulation code and visualizing technology for virtual reality. We also provide technical support and programming consultation by the staff with professional knowledge to the researchers, and develop easy system for customers. Furthermore we make promotion for outer organization including private enterprises to use "Earth Simulator" along with the diffusion of its success and develop simulation technology for industrial application .

Center for Deep Earth Exploration operates the cutting-edge scientific drilling vessel called Deep Sea Drilling Vessel "Chikyu"as a comprehensive promoting organization of IODP <www.iodp.org>, and supports research community for the earth and life science to accomplish the scientific breakthrough. We provide scientific and technical services for researchers through safely and efficiently operation of "Chikyu" as a part of international research projects. Furthermore, we concentrate on the development of world-class riser-drilling technology in the deep sea as a role of the national critical technology "Earth Observation and Ocean Exploration System".

Data Research Center for Marine-Earth Sciences makes systematic arrangement and classification of immense observation data and sample information that JAMSTEC obtains in the research and development, and carrys improvement of quality control methods, database structuring, development of information systems for data publication services and furthermore the integration, analysis and visualization of such data to promote information supply and processing to meet the needs not only from researchers but also such fields as the education and social economy. We also construct the accessible database system for total information on research and marine life pictures piled up in the past activity to contribute worldwide research on biodiversity and ecosystem fluctuation as a foothold of marine life information in my country.
