Yukari Kido of CDEX has been awarded “Best Paper of the 18th Formation Evaluation Symposium 2012” for her presentation. The best paper was selected from 23 papers presented at the 18th Formation Evaluation Symposium held at JOGMEC-TRC on September 27-28, 2012.
Kido et al. reported the quick results of JFAST (Japan Trench Fast Drilling Project), with which coring, MWD/LWD and monitoring of frictional heat were conduced. Because of its excellent results obtained under extremely difficult conditions (deep water depth about 7,000 m and rapid expedition), and of high importance of societal relevance.
The JFAST is operated by CHIKYU, to reveal the frictional properties of the plate boundary fault which caused the Tohoku Earthquake and the associated tsunami.
