This is the maintenance facility for the manned research submersible "SHINKAI 6500". In order to withstand pressure of up to 650 atmospheres and operate safely at depths of up to 6,500 m, "SHINKAI 6500" must be kept in absolutely first-class condition. The submersible is overhauled once a year and checked thoroughly from end to end over a period of about 100 days.
