[Research Description]
The Research and Development Center for Earthquake and Tsunami Forecasting (FEAT) contributes to (1) the development of methods for monitoring and forecasting spatio-temporal variations in slip at plate boundaries and their application to validation of observed data; (2) development of quantitative methods for evaluating the detectability of seafloor observations; and (3) continuous improvement of those methods through collaboration with the Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Group, the Research and Development Group for Seafloor Observatory, and the Subduction Dynamics Research Center. We invite applications for the position of Senior Scientist or Senior Technical Scientist to lead the aforementioned research and development. Various technological skills are required, including acquisition and analysis of geophysical data (especially ocean-bottom geodetic data), stochastic model construction and parameter estimation, and investigation of the generation processes of earthquakes and related phenomena.

The successful applicant will be expected to lead the planning of surveys and research, execute those plans, publish the results, and perform outreach to explain the findings to the broader public, thus contributing to proactive and cooperative disaster mitigation efforts.

[Relevant Research Fields]
Relevant research fields include solid Earth and planetary physics fields, such as seismology and geodesy, mathematical sciences, and natural disaster sciences such as earthquake and tsunami engineering.
