[Arctic Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Institute of Arctic Climate and Environment Research (IACE), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)] Recruitment of Postdoctoral Researcher AGP20-012

Available Position JAMSTEC is recruiting one position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. (AGP20-012)
Recruiting
Department
Arctic Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Institute of Arctic Climate and Environment Research (IACE), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)
Job Description We are soliciting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work primarily on a research project entitled “ArCSⅡ: Arctic Challenge for Sustainability Project Ⅱ, (FY2020-2024),” supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). The successful applicant will engage in the ArCSⅡ research program “Atmospheric Environment and Climate Forcers in the Arctic (Sub-PI: Masayuki Takigawa)".
Through their effects on the radiation budget, clouds and atmospheric constituents including aerosols and gases, such as ozone, are of key importance for understanding the present climate and predicting the future climate of the Arctic. To this end, JAMSTEC enhanced its observations of atmospheric constituents off Alaska and Siberia during the ArCS project (2015–2019) using the Arctic research vessel (R/V) Mirai. In the ArCSⅡ project, we will strive to expand our observational activities, and elucidate processes related to the concentration and microphysical characteristics of atmospheric components through numerical model simulations and collaborative analyses. Our ultimate goal is to understand the relationship between the spatiotemporal distribution and fluctuation of atmospheric constituents within and outside the Arctic region, as well as the impact on climate change and the controlling.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work autonomously on the project and contribute to peer-reviewed articles. The project will require the utilization of observation technology and numerical models, and analysis of observation data, within the collaborative environment that we have established with international researchers.

[Research activities]
(1) Advanced observational research and analysis of atmospheric constituent data acquired by the Mirai R/V and/or ground-based observations collected in Alaska and Siberia.
(2) Analysis of atmospheric transport, chemical reactions, deposition, and aging processes by combining numerical model simulations, satellite observations, and field observations.
(3) Analysis of interactions among atmospheric composition and oceanic changes (e.g., sea ice, ecosystems, material cycles), land changes (e.g., forest fires, vegetation, snow/ice cover), and climate changes (e.g., albedo changes).

[Related research fields]
