Prof. Jack Dongarra, University of Tennessee, one of the organizers for the global Top 500 supercomputer list, visited the Earth Simulator Center on October, 20 2003. This is the first-time for him to actually see the Earth Simulator. Prof. Sato, the Director General welcomed him to the gigantic Earth Simulator machine room. When the Earth Simulator was chosen as the globally fastest supercomputer in April, 2002, he expressed his astonishment by saying as "Computenik". He warned the on going progress of the U.S. achievements towards supercomputer by expressing the impact of the Earth Simulator's achievements. Since The New York Times took up Prof. Dongarra's comments as a front-page article in April 20, 2002, as the result, the Earth Simulator's success was worldwide released beyond the borders and standing in the spotlight.
