発表要旨
1. プロジェクトの目的
The purpose of this project is to study the impact of organized tropical convection on the predictability of mid-latitude high-impact weather.
2. 今年度当初の計画
- Do a preliminary forecasting-skill study for some high-impact weather cases. The experiments will be performed with the 35-km resolution GEM model on the Canadian supercomputer. These would be the reference runs to which much higher resolution runs from the Earth Simulator would be compared.
- Install the Canadian NWP GEM model on the Earth Simulator for initial scalability performance tests.
3. 今年度得られた成果
The GEMDM version 3.2.2 was installed on the ES in September 2006. Preliminary tests are encouraging. The goal here is to demonstrate enough scalability to run the model on a (14 x 32) processor topology using MPI in order to decompose a global horizontal grid of (7200x3600) points. We are planning on using 4 OpenMP threads per subdomain so that there would be only 2 MPI processes per physical ES node. In that manner the production run would be performed on 224 nodes.
