Miyoshi Memorial Auditorium, JAMSTEC Yokohama Institute for Earth Sciences, JAPAN
High-resolution modeling of the atmosphere and ocean has advanced remarkably during the recent few years. In Japan, especially the advancement has been definitely accelerated by the advent of Earth Simulator. However, the huge data outputs from high-resolution simulations need to be carefully examined and verified before the high-resolution models are applied for weather and climate studies.
In this workshop, we would like to overview high-resolution modeling and simulation activities mainly with the Earth Simulator, to clarify the current status of verification, and to discuss future directions. We would like to invite also some scientists who study high-resolution modeling and simulations but does not use the Earth Simulator in order to enhance the scope of the workshop and exchange ideas in a larger research community.
Even though the title of the workshop says “atmospheric”, the workshop will cover also oceanic and coupled modeling, simulations and analysis.
