Abstract

Features of small and medium scale disturbances, and effects of those disturbances on dust lifting and its transfer are numerically examined by using a high resolution Mars general circulation model (GCM) with the horizontal resolutions of T319 (~22 km horizontal grids). The GCM used for the experiment is composed of the dynamical core of the Earth's GCM, AFES, and the physical processes of Mars GCM, that has been developed in our group. In the simulation of northern fall season, there appear frontal structures associated with baroclinic disturbances in the vicinity of the polar cap edge and medium scale vortices generated in the lees of several high mountains. In the presentation, the physical mechanism of generation of medium scale vortices and the effects of disturbances on the dust lifting are reported.
