Abstract

Four simulations of idealized oceanic double-gyre with increasing resolution are compared to adress the consequences of explicitely resolving sub-mesoscale physics on the model solution. The simulations are conducted for 100 years in order to reach equilibrium of the intermediate waters. I will show comparison of the dynamics, the thermodynamics, the turbulence and the biology. I will show that, with the exact same forcing and bathymetry, increasing the resolution up to 2 km significantly modifies the solution in comparison with simulations at 10 km resolution. I will provide some explanations of these modifications.
