Abstract

In this talk, the authors introduce the work done on High Performance CFD in the BSC(Barcelona Supercomputing Center) through the Alya System, the in-house code for HPCM. The talk starts with a brief description of BSC, its supercomputing facilities, notably the Marenostrum, and the CASE Dpt.

Some of the research lines of the CASE in the field of CFD are then presented, such as: massively parallel solvers and solving strategies for incompressible flows, stabilization techniques for compressible flows at all regimes, meshing strategies and implementation in new architectures.

The application examples cover a wide range of fields: cerebral haemodynamics, mesoscale atmospheric flows, acoustics and supersonic flows.

Due to its design, Alya retains its parallel efficiency for all these problems, runing with almost linear scalability in thousands of processors.
