1. Objectives of Ecosystem Change Research Program
The ECRP in FRCGC seeks an improved understanding of how ecosystems respond to global climate change and other environmental variations. The research emphasizes the spatial and temporal patterns of ecosystem structure and functioning, including biomass and net primary production, across a broad climatic gradient especially in the Asia-Pacific region. We invite applications for the position of Group Leader of Ecosystem Spatial Observation and Modeling Group.

2. Qualification
Candidates are expected to have doctor degree. Extensive knowledge, experience, and understandings in vegetation and climate studies by using remote sensing data are required for leading the group. Candidates are also expected to have experiences in data analyses for optical sensor and microwave radar of remote sensing satellites, and moreover, field works in relation to satellite remote sensing. 4. Contract period

Contract period of the employment is from April 1, 2009 to March 31,2010 (1 year contract). This contract will be renewed every beginning of fiscal year until 5 years pass from the first contract. The other five years of the employment (1 year contract x 5 years) is renewable depending on the activity of the applicant.


5. Term of employment
(1) Annual salary: Yearly salary according to the JAMSTEC regulation.
(2) Traveling expenses will be provided according to the JAMSTEC regulations.
(3) JAMSTEC and employee will share the social insurance cost and employment insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
(4) Housing facility: Rental housing is available depending on the applicant´s income and family situation.
(5) Commutation allowance will be provided.
(6) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, and summer holidays. The year-end and the beginning of the year are also holidays. Employee will have additional 20 days for paid leaves in every year.
(7) Other:
i) There are various subsidy systems for personal interests/welfare.
ii) The discretionary labor system is adopted.
