Figure 5: The projected change in the number of days of torrential rain in summer (June, July, August) during the period of 1900 to 2100 in Japan (The result in Scenario "A1B" was used for the data from 2001 onward). If the daily precipitation of at lease one of grids (approx. 100km X 100km) covering the Japanese archipelago exceeded 100mm, it was counted as one day of torrential rain. Since the data are based on the mean value in a wide area, the absolute value cannot be directly compared to the observed data. Only the relative change should be taken into account.
