Greenhouse Gases Modeling Group

Cause of variability and budget of greenhouse gases

Mechanisms of global scale variability and cycles of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and etc., are studied by analyzing their concentration and carbon- and oxygen-isotope data obtained by ground stations, aircrafts and ships with a global three- dimensional atmospheric transport model. Coupling of the three dimensional transport model with terrestrial ecosystem and photochemical models is attempted, and mechanism of exchange processes between atmosphere, ocean and ecosystems, and temporal and spatial variability of source and sink strength are assessed with higher resolution. Further, discussion of usefulness of future satellite observation of CO2 for carbon cycle study will be made.
